No BS! Netflix has acquired 26 episodes of Fincher's new drama 'House of Cards' starring Kevin Spacey. The news came via THR on Tuesday and was confirmed friday
This is cool! Anyone remember when HBO and Showtime were just pay movie channels on cable? Somewhere along the way they started buying and producing original programming and thankfully so. Imagine a TV world without The Sopranos, Dexter, Band of Brothers. Someone had to push the boundaries and now Netflix is pushing the boundaries of licensing. A risky move, indeed, but fantastic!
I actually expected Google to make this type of move for YouTube or Google TV, but they seem to have other issues in that pipeline just now. This is the beginning of a trend and expect to see more of this happening in the next five years. Maybe even major sports leagues exclusive to YouTube, Netflix, or other streaming service.
Netflix will distribute the series beginning in late 2012
